Dancers of color - bridging the space between comfort and discomfort.

About Us

Liminal Movement

Collective

Dancers & Choreographers of color who bridge the space between comfort and discomfort in our world today. We dance in solidarity and defiance of the system that has oppressed us. We seek to inspire our audience to find hope, comfort and freedom in community. As dancers of color in the PNW it is not an uncommon experience to be one-of-one in a room, or to be boxed into a style/character because of our race.

Liminal was built out of necessity to have a safe space where we can create and unapologetically be ourselves — to be seen and heard by like-minded people and to gather the courage to amplify our voices in unity to create the change we want to see in our communities.

Somewhere between being forced out, and demanding a place within, we find ourselves neither here, not there, but always in motion; in that space between - we will be witnessed, and we will tell our stories.

Upcoming Performance

Liminal Movement Collective is proud to present our 3rd performance, "Until The Smoke Clears."

"Until The Smoke Clears" is a collection of work choreographed by the members of our collective, each reflecting on how life can force us into liminal spaces as people of color. But we learn to find the beauty within spaces that feel suffocating, and we turn it into art. When life is working against us, dance is our remedy, our necessity, and our resistance. We can't wait to show you what that looks like to us.

TW: This performance expresses sensitive and heavy concepts that include mature language and intense themes of racial and sexual trauma reflecting the lived experience as black and brown artists. We recognize that our depiction of these stories may be triggering for members of the community. We want to ensure our audience feels they are entering a safe space, even while confronting uncomfortable realities. In the program there will be markers indicating the content of the piece, the audience will have the opportunity to step out beforehand if necessary. If you have further questions about what to expect feel free to reach out to us.
